Purpose and Instructions

Purpose

The purpose is to create external links to your site. If 50 of us have this page on our site and it is picked up by search engines, the search engine will show 50 external links to your site. The more external links you have to your site the higher your rating on some search engines.

There is no reason for anyone to show their customers links to their compeditors, consequently there is no reason for the link on your home page to be visible to your customers.  It only needs to exist in a manner that will allow search engines to find it.

This can be accomplished by creating a hyperlink to a clear.gif that is 1 pixel square.

Search engines will not follow links off site. That is why you need to copy the page of links from my site, save it to an html file and then upload it to your root directory. The link from your home page needs to be to the links page on your site, not mine. You need to update (replace) this page periodically so new listings are included.

Instructions

1. Post the mivalinks.html page in your prime(root) directory.  If your URL is http://www.yoursite.com/ this file will be accessed at http://www.yoursite.com/mivalinks.html
 

2. Periodically update this page by copying it from http://www.santafemall.com/faq/mivalinks/mivalinks.html, saving it as an html file and ftp'ing it to your site with the same file name of mivalinks.html. 

3. Then place a link from your home page to the mivalinks.html page on your site

4. Submit your mivalinks.html to the 15 search engines listed at: http://www.savvysearch.com/submit. 

You will be reminded monthly to update the mivalinks.html page and your site will be checked periodically to verify participation.
